Israel Rosen Collection, 1968-1988.

Collection consists largely of non-book printed material collected by Israel and Selma Rosen to support their modern art collection. Included are newspaper clippings, magazine articles, private gallery invitations and listings, brochures, fliers, and some exhibit catalogs too ephemeral to be cataloged as books. The material deals with artists, art movements, art exhibits, museums, and private collections. Major topics covered include abstract expressionism, expressionism (in Germany, Austria, other European countries and the United States), cubism, surrealism and Dada, De Stijl, Bauhaus, futurism, and constructivism. Individual artists represented include Paul Klee, Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, and Hans Hofmann.

Biographical Note: Israel Rosen (1912-88) was a physician and collector of modern art. Born in Baltimore, Rosen received his B.A. from The Johns Hopkins University in 1931 and his medical degree from the University of Maryland in 1935. He had a family practice in Baltimore from 1936 until his retirement in 1977.
